October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM). NCSAM is a month out of the year in which the cybersecurity professional community come together to focus on cybersecurity and encourage others to exercise proper cyber hygiene. The Department of Homeland Security and the National Cyber Security Alliance have sponsored NCSAM since its inception in 2004.
The University of South Alabama's Information Security Office has constructed important cyber security topics for each week in October. This year's theme focuses on Do Your Part. #BeCyberSmart. and will provide some helpful information on how to improve your cyber security posture.

'We want people to challenge themselves to learn something new about cybersecurity,' said Brandon Morris, information security specialist at USA's Computer Services Center. 'We take for granted that the services and sites we use online are secure and while that may be typically true, it's important that we take the initiative and do our part.'
Week Four - The Future of Connected Devices
The final week of Cybersecurity Awareness Month will look at the future of connected devices. This week will look at how technological innovations, such as 5G, might impact consumers' and business' online experiences (e.g. faster speeds and data transmission, larger attack surface for hackers), as well as how people/infrastructure can adapt to the continuous evolution of the connected devices moving forward. No matter what the future holds, however, every user needs to be empowered to do their part.
